St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church at 3870 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36109 US - Our Catholic Education

Our Catholic Education

Religious Education begins with the family. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states “Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule. The home is well suited for education in the virtues…..  Parents have a grave responsibility to give good example to their children.”   CCC 2223       “Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child’s earliest years. This already happens when family members help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents." CCC 2226

St. Bede offers Religious Education classes on Sunday mornings for students entering Kindergarten thru Sixth grade. Students in grades 7-12 have opportunities on Wednesday evenings. These classes are a continuation of the education that begins at home. Sacramental preparation takes place beginning in grade 1, for reception of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in grade 2; and preparation for Confimation begins in grade 9 for reception in grade 11.

Family Nights serve as education for all, children and adults alike. We come together as a community of faith to share a meal and to learn.

Additional opportunities are offered during the year for adults. RCIA meets on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. and is a tremendous way to update your knowledge of our faith along side those who are coming to learn about the Catholic Church.

The Sunday bulletin, along with the website, will give notice for start dates and times. Or you can call Joan at 272-3463 ext. 208.
